Publish to Ghost
Connect your Ghost blog with an Admin API key so ProjectHQ publishes each article straight to Ghost, images, tags and author included.
Connect your Ghost blog and ProjectHQ publishes each article straight to it, with every image uploaded to Ghost. Ghost has no "sign in with" button for apps, so you connect with an Admin API key you create in your Ghost admin — it takes a couple of minutes.
Connect your blog
- In ProjectHQ, open your blog's Settings → Publishing and choose Ghost (see Publish to your website).
- Your Ghost blog — check the address. ProjectHQ fills in your project's domain; change it if your blog lives on a subdomain or elsewhere. Use the blog's public address, not the admin panel; the form shows where your admin panel is.
- Create an integration in Ghost — click Open Ghost Integrations to go straight to the right screen in Ghost, then:
- In Settings → Integrations, click Add custom integration and name it ProjectHQ.
- Copy the Admin API key — not the Content API key.
- Paste the Admin API key and click Connect & verify.
The Admin API key has two halves separated by a colon. If you paste the Content API key by mistake, the form tells you before you connect. The key is stored encrypted.
When it works, the top of the section shows your blog's own title, Connected and your Ghost version.
Tags and author for every article
Once connected, Applied to every article lets you choose what each post gets in Ghost:
- Tags — type a tag and press Enter, or click one of the tags already On your blog. A tag Ghost doesn't have yet is created.
- Author — pick one of the people who have an account on your Ghost blog, or leave Whoever Ghost defaults to. Your ProjectHQ byline still appears inside the article itself (see Authors and bylines).
Click Save options.
Headless Ghost: where readers see it
If Ghost only stores your content and your site is served from somewhere else, enter the public address of your posts under Where readers see it — not where Ghost is installed. ProjectHQ then links to your articles as that-address/article-slug. Leave it empty if readers read the posts on the Ghost blog itself.
What gets published
- A published post on your Ghost blog when you click Publish (or on the article's scheduled date), with its meta description, also used as the excerpt.
- Images — the feature image and every image in the article — are uploaded to Ghost.
- Updates: after you edit a live article in ProjectHQ, click Push update to Ghost in the editor. The same post is updated.
- Unpublishing in ProjectHQ turns the post back into a draft in Ghost, so a later publish updates the same post.
Check the connection
Click Test connection at any time. You'll see either "Connection works — Ghost answered and accepted the credentials." or the reason it failed:
| Message says | What to do |
|---|---|
| Ghost rejected the Admin API key | Copy the Admin API key again from Settings → Integrations in Ghost, click Update credentials and paste it. |
| No Ghost Admin API found at … | The blog address is wrong. Click Update credentials and check it. |
| It does not look like a Ghost blog | The address answers, but isn't a Ghost blog — use the blog's own address. |
Delivery problems for a single article show up in the editor's SEO tab under Publishing, with a Retry delivery button.
