Edit and review an article
Edit an article in the ProjectHQ editor, check its content health score and ask the AI agent for changes before you publish.
Every article opens in the editor, whether the AI wrote it or you started from a blank page. Here you read and change the text, see how trustworthy the article looks to search engines, and ask the AI agent for changes before you publish.
The editor at a glance
- Status: Draft, Published, Writing while the AI is writing, or Failed.
- Saved: your changes save on their own a moment after you stop typing.
- Publish: sends the article to your website. See Publish to your website.
- Content health: a score from 0 to 100, explained below.
- Agent, SEO and Details tabs.
- From the content audit: the most important things to fix, as one-click suggestions.
- Ask agent: describe a change in your own words.
Edit the text
Click anywhere in the article and type. The title, the featured image and the body can all be changed. The byline at the bottom is covered in Authors and bylines.
Select some text to open the toolbar:
- AI Assistant rewrites the selection: Simplify, Expand, Shorten, Professional, Casual or Creative. Custom prompt… hands the selected passage to the agent so you can say exactly what you want.
- The other buttons format the text: bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, code, subscript and superscript, paragraph or heading (the P menu), link, quote, alignment, clear formatting, undo and redo.
On an empty line, a small menu lets you insert a heading, a list, a quote, a code block or an image. Images are covered in Images in your articles.
Content health
Every AI-written article is checked when it's finished. The check scores four things search engines look for, together known as E-E-A-T:
- Experience: signs of first-hand use, such as real examples and real screenshots.
- Expertise: depth, structure and accuracy.
- Authoritativeness: who stands behind it, including the byline, sources and links.
- Trustworthiness: whether the claims are backed by sources.
The overall score is labelled Excellent, Good, Fair, Needs work or Poor. Under the bars you can see how many claims were checked against their sources and how many issues are left to fix. After you've made changes, click Re-analyze to score the article again. An article that hasn't been checked yet shows Analyze instead.
Ask the agent for changes
In the Agent tab, type what you'd like changed, for example "rework the conclusion with a clear call to action", and click Ask agent. You can also click one of the suggestions from the content audit.
The agent doesn't change your text straight away. It lists its edits under Proposed changes. Click a change to see it in the article next to the original, then Accept or Reject it. If you accept something by mistake, undo it with ⌘Z (Ctrl+Z on Windows).
The agent can also add a diagram or chart to a section, or change one that's already there. Say what it should show, for example "add a diagram of the three approval steps", or what to change, for example "in the diagram, highlight the last step". It designs the diagram from what the section says, or redraws the existing one with your change, and proposes it like any other edit. Designing a diagram takes about half a minute. This works when the publication's diagrams are set to Designed for each article, see Images in your articles.
While the agent works you can Stop it. Start over clears the conversation.
The SEO tab
- The counts at the top: words, headings, paragraphs and images.
- Audit detail: the reasoning behind each content health score. Source grounding lists claims that are unsupported by, or contradict, their sources. Findings lists the issues, and Improve next to a finding asks the agent to fix it.
- Performance, once the article is live: pageviews, visitors, time on page and bounce rate for the last 30 days. If you've connected Google Search Console, you'll also see clicks, impressions, position and top queries for the last 28 days. Indexing shows whether Google has indexed the page (Check now) and whether it was submitted to Bing.
- Publishing: each attempt to send the article to your connected website, with Retry delivery if one failed.
- Target keywords: the keywords the article targets. Track adds one to the Rank Tracker.
- Links: every internal and external link in the article.
The Details tab
Set the Meta Title, URL Slug and Meta Description that search engines and social networks show. Social Media Previews shows how a share will look on Facebook and X (Twitter).
Before you publish
- Fill every Image needed slot, or remove it. An article can't be published while one is empty.
- Check that the byline is right.
- Click Publish. If you edit an article that's already on your website, a Push update button appears so you can send the new version.
Delete an article
Hover over the article in the Articles list and click the bin icon (Delete). This can't be undone.
