Brand, region and competitors

Tell ProjectHQ how your business sounds, which country and language you target, and which competitors to compare against.

These project settings tell ProjectHQ who you are, where your customers are and who you compete with. The AI writer, the content planner and the SEO tools all read them, so a few minutes here make every article and report fit your business better.

ProjectHQ fills most of this in for you when you add your website. Check it once, then change it whenever your business changes.

All three live in Settings → Project. Your own name and byline are set in your profile instead, see Find your way around. Guest authors are covered in Authors and bylines.

Brand

Go to Settings → Project → Brand. Changes save automatically as you type; you'll see Brand profile saved.

The Brand settings: Brand Name, Brand logo for light and dark images, Brand color, Brand Voice and Brand Personality
Setting What it's for
Brand Name The name the AI uses for your business.
Brand logo Two versions: Light background (your usual mark) and Dark background (a light-coloured version). It's placed in a corner of AI-generated article images and diagrams when a publication turns the logo overlay on, see Images in your articles. One mark is enough: it's used on both until you add the other. A PNG with a transparent background works best; an SVG is converted to PNG on upload.
Brand color Pick a colour or type a hex code such as #4d4fff. It's the accent on this project's card in your projects list, and the colour of your article diagrams unless a publication sets its own Accent. Generated pictures don't use it: they take their colours from what they show. Clear removes it.
Brand Voice and Brand Personality Under Voice & Character: how you sound and what you're like. The AI writer follows them in every article.
Target Audience and Unique Value Proposition Under Audience & Positioning: who you serve, and what sets you apart from competitors. They steer which topics the content planner picks and how articles make your case.
Company Description A full overview of what you do, your mission and your story.

Just added your website? You may see Brand analysis in progress for a minute while ProjectHQ reads your site and fills these fields in.

Tip: Write as if you were briefing a new copywriter. "Friendly, plain English, no jargon, short sentences" helps the AI more than "professional".

Region

Go to Settings → Project → Region. The region decides which country's search data ProjectHQ uses and which language it writes in.

The Region Settings with Default Country, Default Language and Save Changes
  1. Pick your Default Country: where most of your customers are. It's used for regional keyword data and search engine targeting.
  2. Check the Default Language. ProjectHQ picks the usual language of the country you chose; change it if you write in another one. It's used when writing content and expanding keywords.
  3. Click Save Changes.

These are the defaults for keyword research, content planning, AI articles and SEO analysis.

Competitors

Add up to five websites you compete with. Rank Tracker then shows their positions next to yours for the keywords you track, see Compare with competitors.

  1. Go to Settings → Project → Competitors. The counter next to the heading shows how many you have, for example 3 / 5.
  2. Click Edit Competitors.
  3. Type a competitor's domain, for example competitor.com, and click Add or press Enter.
The Edit Competitors panel with a domain field, an Add button and three competitors, 3 of 5 used

To remove one, click the bin next to it and confirm with Remove. That can't be undone, but you can add the same domain again later. Once you have five, remove one before adding another.

You can open the same Edit Competitors panel from Rank Tracker.
