Delete a project
Permanently delete a ProjectHQ project and all its data, and what to do first if it still has a running subscription.
Deleting a project removes the website and everything ProjectHQ holds for it: articles, analytics, chats, contacts, rankings, audits and settings. It can't be undone, so read this page first.
Only the project's owner can delete it.
Before you delete
- Cancel the subscription first. A project with a running subscription (on the trial, paid, or with a failed payment) can't be deleted. Cancel it in the billing portal, see Manage your subscription and invoices. As soon as the status reads Cancelled, you can delete the project, even if paid time is left. You won't be charged again.
- Keep what you need. Copy any articles you haven't published yet, and download your invoices from the billing portal.
- Just want a break? Cancelling alone keeps all your data: the project moves to the free plan and you can subscribe again later. See Plans, trial and limits.
- The free trial doesn't come back. Each website gets one trial. If you delete the project and add the same site again, subscribing starts the full plan straight away.
Delete the project
- Open the project you want to delete.
- Go to Settings → Account → Danger zone.
- Click Delete project.
- Check the name in the question Are you sure you want to delete project "…"?, then click Delete project to confirm. Click Cancel to keep it.
ProjectHQ shows Project deleted successfully and takes you back to your list of projects.
If it won't delete
You see Cannot delete project with an active subscription. Please cancel your subscription first in the Subscription settings. The subscription is still running. Cancel it as described above, wait until the status reads Cancelled, then try again.
After deleting
- The tracking script and the chat widget on your website stop working for this project. Remove the ProjectHQ line from your site's
<head>when you get a chance, see Install the tracking script. - Articles that were sent to your own website (for example WordPress, Webflow or Ghost) stay there. ProjectHQ just stops managing them.
- Your other projects and your account aren't affected.
