Plans, trial and limits

What the free trial, the full plan and the free plan include, the monthly limits, and what happens when you reach one.

ProjectHQ has one paid plan. Every new website starts with a 14-day free trial of it, and a project whose subscription ends moves to a limited free plan rather than being switched off. This page explains what each one includes and what happens when you reach a limit.

Prices are set per plan and shown in the app when you subscribe or upgrade.

Three ways a project can run

Free trial Full plan Free plan
How you get it Start it when you add a website (card required, nothing charged for 14 days) Your trial ends with the card still on file, or you upgrade Your trial or subscription was cancelled and has ended
AI articles A small allowance for the trial 15 a month None
AI assistant in your chat Answers a limited number of conversations Answers every conversation Off: the chat collects visitors' details instead
Leads and conversations Visible Visible Kept, but hidden until you subscribe
Analytics A limited number of visits 10,000 visits a month Up to 1,000 visits a month
Tracked keywords 100 100 None
SEO tools Everything Everything Limited: smaller site audits; rankings, insights and Domain Rating stop updating

The trial gives you the whole product, with smaller allowances. You can see your exact numbers at any time in Settings → Account → Subscription, and the Upgrade dialog lists the trial's allowance next to the full plan's.

During your free trial

The trial lasts 14 days from the moment Stripe confirms it. How to start one is in Start your free trial.

In the last week, a bar at the top of the dashboard shows the days left and how much of the trial you've used:

The trial bar on the dashboard: Free trial, 4 days left, with Articles, AI conversations and Visits meters and an Upgrade now button

When you reach a trial allowance:

  • Articles: no new AI articles until the trial ends and the full plan starts, or until you upgrade.
  • AI conversations: new chats on your site still open, but the assistant no longer answers them. It asks for the visitor's details so you can reply yourself in Live Chat, which shows Trial AI conversations used above the list. Every conversation stays readable, and the AI takes new ones again once your plan starts.
  • Visits: further visits aren't recorded in Analytics until the full plan starts.

Upgrade before the trial ends

Don't want to wait? Click Upgrade at the bottom of the menu, or Upgrade now in the trial bar:

The Upgrade to the full plan dialog comparing trial and full plan allowances, with Keep my trial and Upgrade buttons
  1. The dialog shows how your allowances grow.
  2. Click Upgrade (the button shows the price). Your trial ends now and the card you added is charged. After that, the same amount is charged every month.
  3. ProjectHQ waits for the payment to go through, then shows You're on the full plan.

Changed your mind? Click Keep my trial. Nothing is charged.

One trial per website

Each website gets one free trial. It counts for the whole domain, including its subdomains, and stays used even if you delete the project and add the site again. If a site has already had a trial, subscribing to it starts the full plan straight away.

On the full plan

Your plan renews every month on the date shown in Settings → Account → Subscription. Three allowances are monthly and start again at each renewal; the panel shows Resets in … days:

Allowance What counts When you reach it
AI Articles / Month Each new AI-written blog article New articles wait until the next month
Conversations / Month Each new chat a visitor starts on your site Live Chat shows a Monthly conversation allowance used notice; conversations keep coming in, the AI keeps answering and nothing is locked
Analytics Events Pageviews and custom events from your tracking script Visits are still recorded; the app warns you that you're over

Tracked Keywords doesn't reset. It counts the keywords you track right now in Rank Tracker, so removing keywords frees up room. A keyword tracked in two locations, or on desktop and mobile, counts once for each.

On the free plan

If you cancel during the trial or later, your project moves to the free plan when the paid time runs out. Nothing is deleted. A Free plan label appears at the top of the screen, and the dashboard tells you what still runs:

A project on the free plan: Free plan label and Upgrade button in the top bar, and a card saying 3 leads are waiting for you with a Subscribe button
  • Still running: Analytics (up to 1,000 visits a month) and the chat on your site, which collects visitors' details.
  • Paused: new articles, the AI assistant's answers, keyword tracking and new insights. Site audits still run, on fewer pages.
  • Waiting for you: new leads. Live Chat and Contacts show how many there are, but not who they are or what they wrote.

To get everything back, click Upgrade, Subscribe or Unlock your leads. You go to a secure Stripe checkout, and your leads and assistant come back as soon as the payment goes through.

If a payment fails

When a renewal can't be charged, Stripe tries your card again. Meanwhile the project shows Subscription Required in place of its pages. Your data is kept. Click Manage billing to update your card in the billing portal. See Manage your subscription and invoices.
